Liverpool FC - Tory Titles
As Nick & Dave have been dominating the news for the past 7 days I
thought I would combine 2 of my interests - LFC and Politics - and see
what the result was.
I hope you are all bracing yourselves, given the strong socialist roots
of Liverpool, because the facts are that of our 18 league titles, 14 of
them
(78%) have been won under Governments that have been Conservative,
Liberal or Coalition with only 4 titles coming when a Labour government
has been in power.
Furthermore, if we class the 'Major' trophies as either league, European
Cup, League Cup, EUEFA Cup or FA Cup, then LFC have won 40 major
trophies in
their illustrious history, of which 26 (65%) have been won under
non-Labour governments.
11 of our titles have been won in odd numbered years(61%).
Moving on to the subject of players, every single title winning side
from the first in 1901 right through to the last, in 1990, had a
Scottish player in it.
We have never won a title with a side that didn't have a scot playing.
It is a similar story with managers, as our title winning sides have
only ever been managed by English (3), Scots (3) and one irishman.
Curiously, 2 of the English managers were geordies (the other was a
Manc!)
So, our best statistical likelihoood of winning the title rests with us
having a Government that is not labour, is in an odd numbered year and
with a Scot in the side.
Should we hope Danny Wilson, from Rangers, becomes a regular next
season, 2010-11 and that we are managed by . . . . O'Neil? Hodgson?
. . . anyone think of a good Scottish manager for us?

Can anyone think of any more curious political, managerial or player
facts connected with our past success?
Even better . . . . . .perhaps we could do with 2 new owners called . .
. Nick and Dave or maybe an owner called Dave and a manager called
Nick?
In fact, what about this for a line up:
Hague Harman Letwind Hughes
Duncan-Smith Spelman Osborne Laws
Cameron Clegg
I think I have a reasonable balance of the lefties and the rights in the
correct positions!
